This EAPG Early American Pattern Glasses, called Art Cut Line. OMN. By United States Glass Company Pittsburgh PA. The company operated from 1891-1960. This Art Cut was introduced circa 1913. Note: Art Cut is not a single pattern. It's a group of different patterns, each assigned by the United States Glass company. The number assigned to this piece is unknown and the glass will be marked Art Cut. This piece of EAPG has a light purple tint because in 1913. The manufacturer used Manganese dioxide to cancel out the greenish tint caused by iron impurities in the glass making sand. When added in small, specific amounts, the magnesium produced clear, colorless glass. Over decades, UV radiation from sunlight cause the magnesium to photo oxidize. This chemical change in a glass matrix causes the magnesium to turn pink or amethyst, creating a lavender to rich purple hue in the glass. The presence of a sun purple tent is often used by collectors to help date glass items. Measures 8 3/8" Tall.
